Heinz (‘Henry’) Henghes Exhibition spring 2024.

Heinz “Henri” Henghes (1906–1975) was an internationally renowned sculptor and a key figure in the mid-20th-century Modernist Avant-garde. Born in Germany, he lived in the USA, Italy, and England before settling in the Dordogne region of France in the early 1950s, drawn by its natural beauty and the prehistoric cave paintings at Lascaux and other sites, which profoundly influenced his artistic vision. Henghes’s work reflected his fascination with humanity’s relationship to nature, blending themes of permanence and change. The Galerie du Château exhibition explored his life and art within the context of societal transformations, highlighting his depictions of rural life, his engagement with the primal simplicity of prehistoric art, and his enduring relevance as an artist who sought to integrate humanity with the natural world.
