The Galerie du Chateau
Marion and Robert Hadaway, the proprietors of the Chateau of Saint Croix de Mareuil, recognised the unique opportunity afforded to them thanks to the extensive buildings adjoining the main residence. Now refurbished to make a large gallery space, the Galerie du Chateau opened its doors in 2023 to the public.
Associate Directors Jane Linden and Jonathan Harris are the creative team who run Projets La Vieille Closerie – an initiative enabling dialogue and creativity amongst artists in the rural environment.
Residencies, workshops, discussions and exhibitions provide a lively platform for local and international artists to exchange ideas and make work for diverse contexts and publics.
Profiles
Robert Hadaway studied at the Universities of London and Oxford. His passion for music and sculpture led him to become a world-renowned luthier specialising in early musical instruments, particularly post-Renaissance.
Marion Straker-Hadaway grew up with a father who was an art photographer. She spent her entire childhood in an atmosphere of creative culture. A graduate in physics, philosophy and human resources, she currently offers her expertise to a charity.
Jane Linden has a doctorate in ‘Knowledge Conservation’. She has taught contemporary arts practice at British universities for over 20 years. She has curated exhibitions of mixed and interdisciplinary artworks that have included installations and site-specific work. The primary aim was to make complex works of art accessible to the general public. Enamoured of France, its culture and countryside, Jane Linden and her husband seized the opportunity to settle in Sainte Croix de Mareuil, a commune full of creative potential.
